Well, just as my last book review about “Free Men” spoke about an ending that wasn’t as important as the story itself, this book is the opposite.
Four hikers.
Five days.
Only three of them return.
Only “The Mountain Story” by Lori Lansens is not so much a survival story as it is a story about the harshness of real life itself.
And when I think about the ending of this book I still say to myself “holy crap”
But don’t worry! I’ve never been one to spoil book so what I’m going to tell you was not a spoiler it is in the synopsis of the book.
What its about:
When the main character “Wolf” decides he wants to kill himself he takes a hiking trip so As to throw himself off the top of the mountain. But on his way up things change and he encounters strangers here and there, but more importantly three women will take things in a completely different direction.
When I read books there are some characters I tend to hate and could care less about, then later on you change you mind a little. One of the three women in this book is one of those, except For the life of me I can’t remember her name! Either way as the novel goes on Im sure you will create your own opinions of the characters as we all do.
This book is not told as the events happen, like many novels do. Instead This book is told by the main character “Wolf “who has decided he can no longer keep secret anymore, the story of what happened up on the mountain and decides to write it down for his son to read.
This book reminds you just how little you know of another person and what is going on in their life. How put together somebody may seem on the outside has nothing to do with what is going on on the inside. And for me was one of those that you will re read later on, so to get a better grip of what just went on in the pages.
And when it was all over; and you still sat there saying to yourself… “Holy crap.”
